Construction

During construction, Prosperity created more than 400 well-paid union jobs—most held by workers from right here in central Illinois.  Hundreds of union jobs, held by residents of the area, helped inject money into the local economy and allowed more workers to stay closer to their families.

The skills, leadership, and professionalism of Laborers Local 703, Operators Locals 841 and 965, Iron Workers Local 380, Millwrights Local 1693, IBEW 601, and IBEW 51 helped make Prosperity Wind possible.

Supporting Piatt County Students

Asa part of our commitment to local community action, education, and promoting renewable energy, Apex was proud to sponsor three different KidWind teams this spring through Prosperity Wind.

KidWind is a competition at both the state and national levels that provides students with an opportunity to design, manufacture, and test their own wind blade designs. Each team is judged on the efficiency and effectiveness of their design. This year, the World KidWind Challenge was held in Arizona. Prosperity Wind sponsored a team from the Blue Ridge School District and two teams from the DeLand-Weldon School District.

The students spent several days at the national competition, meeting hundreds of other STEM-focused students from all over the country. They shared their ideas and designs and made new friends. They also got a chance to see the beautiful desert landscapes of Arizona, many for the first time.

The Prosperity Wind team is honored to help these students gain these experiences, and hopes to sponsor these teams well into the future.

After Prosperity Wind covered her travel expenses to attend KidWind Teacher training in Alaska; teacher Janelle Harper brought new expertise and resources back to her school, leading her team to the final stage of the national competition.

In the KidWind Regional Competition the DeLand Weldon 'lil Orbiting Eagles received 2nd place in their division and qualified for the KidWind World Competition in May in Phoenix, Arizona

Conservation Grant

Through the Apex Conservation Grant program, Prosperity Wind donated $300,000 to support rewilding and restoration initiatives near Rockford and along the Illinois River.

Severson Dells Nature Center will rewild a decommissioned 168-acre golf course into a biodiverse natural habitat while enhancing public access and environmental education opportunities.

n Brown County, Illinois, the Nature Conservancy (TNC) will support the long-term recovery of Spunky Bottoms, a 1,157-acre historic floodplain of the Illinois River. TNC will establish a managed connection to the river through modifications to the existing levee and installation of a water control structure, which will sustain the site’s ecological benefits for people and wildlife.

Ribbon Cutting Event

On Tuesday, July 15, 2025, Apex Clean Energy joined landowners and labor leaders for a special ribbon cutting event celebrating completion of the 300-megawatt Prosperity Wind project.

“The vision for Prosperity Wind began over five years ago, rooted in a simple but powerful belief: that by working alongside local landowners, community leaders, and businesses, we could build a project that delivers long-term value to Piatt County,” said Director of Development Alan Moore.

Apex developed and constructed, the project , which will provide significant economic benefits to Piatt County, generating up to $93 million in tax revenue over its lifetime and becoming the county’s largest taxpayer by a factor of 10 during its first year of operations.

“We’d like to thank our partners in labor. Because of your work, this project didn’t just deliver energy, it created meaningful opportunity,” Added Matt Tetrault, Executive Vice President of Engineering and Construction. “Hundreds of union jobs, held by residents of the area, helped inject money into the local economy and allowed more workers to stay closer to their families. That’s the kind of impact Apex strives to stand behind.”

Prosperity Wind reached commercial operations in late April, 2025.

Community Grant

The Prosperity Wind Community Grant program has donated more than $160,000 dollars to the community so far.

Since 2019, Apex has contributed nearly $40,000 to support the work of Piatt County Mental Health, an organization that provides vital mental health services to residents across the county. This funding has helped improve their facility, invest in new equipment, and expand access to care.
